CHULA VISTA – A motorist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 805 in Chula Vista, authorities said Wednesday. Another driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter for allegedly triggering the chain-reaction crash. It happened shortly before 11:35 p.m. Tuesday on northbound I-805 near Bonita Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr said.

A Nissan pickup truck and a Toyota were traveling next to a construction zone when they collided for unknown reasons and the impact sent the truck into the construction zone, where it slammed into the back of a parked dump truck, according to reports. The driver of a Nissan pickup truck was transported to a hospital and later pronounced dead, Doerr said.

No details about the victim were immediately available. A SigAlert was issued shortly after 2:45 a.m. shutting down the right two lanes of northbound I-805 just north of Bonita Road.
